Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 70 mm² (2/0 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 70 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 300 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which MultiPlus is this?
This note covers the classic MultiPlus 24/5000/120-100, 230 V in Victron's 5 kVA manual. It is a nominal 24 V inverter/charger with 120 A charging and a 100 A transfer path. It is different from a MultiPlus-II with a similar power rating; use the complete model number when choosing instructions and accessories.
Which connections are represented?
AC IN L / N map to AC-in and AC OUT L / N to the backed-up AC-out-1. DC + / DC − are the battery connections and carry both inverter discharge and charger current. The symbol omits protective earth, chassis ground, AC-out-2, VE.Bus, sensing, and remote controls.
AC-out-2 supplies mains-only loads: it disconnects during inverter operation and reconnects about two minutes after external AC returns. Its limit is 50 A. Do not combine it with the backed-up output merely because only one output appears on the canvas.
What does the battery installation require?
The installation table, printed page 10 specifies a 400 A DC fuse and, for 0–5 m, two 50 mm² positive cables and two 50 mm² negative cables. These parallel conductors are part of the recommendation, not interchangeable with one 50 mm² conductor. For longer runs, use the table and the applicable installation rules; the manual prohibits locating these battery cables in a closed conduit.
Battery-terminal maximum torque is 11 N·m for this classic unit. The table's 400–1400 Ah recommendation does not replace checking the battery's inverter load, surge capability, and permitted charging current.
What AC protection and settings matter?
Printed page 11 requires AC input protection of 100 A or less, reduced for a smaller shore or generator supply. PowerAssist can supplement pass-through power; the manual describes up to 122 A at AC-out-1 and requires appropriately sized output wiring, residual-current protection, and overcurrent protection. The symbol's AC terminal allowances do not represent all of these hardware ratings.
Maintain an uninterrupted protective-earth path. The unit's ground relay bonds neutral to chassis in inverter operation and opens before accepting external AC; review the complete grounding arrangement rather than adding an arbitrary permanent neutral-earth link.
Set the actual source-current limit, battery charge profile, and BMS controls before operation. The 120 A charger rating is a maximum, not a suitable setting for every bank.
How should it be mounted?
Mount in a dry, ventilated location with at least 10 cm around the unit. Vertical mounting is preferred for cooling. Keep the unit close to the batteries, never directly above them, and leave its interior accessible for inspection and service.

Describe your setup to draft a system with MultiPlus 24/5000/120-100 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.
The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
