Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the unit's rated output. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 35 mm² (2 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 35 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 125 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which 150/100 is covered?
The catalog photograph identifies the SmartSolar 150/100-Tr VE.Can: a screw-terminal 100 A charger, with Bluetooth, VE.Direct, and VE.Can. Nominal PV power is 1450 W at 12 V or 5800 W at 48 V. It automatically selects 12/24/48 V; 36 V requires manual configuration. Confirm the label if using a different connector or communications variant.
What do the terminals represent?
PV + / PV − and BATT + / BATT − map to the two power pairs. Tr terminals accept 35 mm² / AWG 2 cable, tightened to 2.4 N·m. The MC4 sibling instead has three PV connector pairs feeding one tracker, with 30 A maximum through each pair; those connectors are not independent trackers.
The diagram omits the case ground screw, rotary profile selector, VE.Direct, two VE.Can sockets, remote on/off, and programmable relay. VE.Can synchronization needs the correct network cabling and termination; the sockets do not carry charging current. There is no high-current LOAD output: connect loads through separate battery distribution and protection.
How is the battery circuit protected?
The battery-fuse table specifies 120–140 A for the 100 A model. Match protection to the conductor, installation conditions, and battery fault current. With the array isolated, connect the battery, wait 10 seconds, confirm system voltage, then connect PV and control wiring. Check polarity before closing each source disconnect.
How is the array sized?
The specification table, printed page 69 limits PV Voc to 150 V in the coldest conditions and 145 V during startup and operation. Total array short-circuit current is limited to 70 A. The PV voltage must exceed battery voltage by 5 V to start and 1 V while running. Battery-output clipping does not protect against excessive input voltage or short-circuit current.
What settings and mounting details matter?
Choose the battery-approved charging profile and current limit. Automatic voltage detection does not identify chemistry; check equalization, absorption, float, and lithium BMS/temperature restrictions. Coordinated parallel charging requires compatible settings across controllers.
Mount vertically, terminals down, on a nonflammable surface with 100 mm clearance above and below, within 3 m of the battery and never directly over it. The connection area is IP22; guard it against water and accidental contact. Full rated output applies up to 40°C, so allow ventilation around this high-current controller.
