Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 4 mm² (11 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 4 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

What does the 10 A Wanderer support?
Renogy’s A4 manual identifies RNG-CTRL-WND10-G1, a 10 A PWM controller for 12/24 V batteries. The technical table gives 55 V maximum PV input, while the wiring table uses 130 W at 12 V / 260 W at 24 V. The 55 V ceiling is not a reason to use a high-voltage array on a 12 V PWM bank: match the panel’s nominal voltage and current to the bank and controller.
A positive-ground Wanderer PG is a separate variant; match the full part number. The “mppt” text in Crimp’s ID does not change this controller’s PWM operation.
Which connections are missing from the drawing?
Crimp represents PV + / PV − and BATT + / BATT −. The physical LOAD + / LOAD −, two USB outputs and RS232 port are omitted. LOAD follows battery voltage and is limited to 10 A. It does not provide regulated 12 V when the battery bank is 24 V. Use it only for compatible small loads, not an inverter feed. USB output is 5 V, 2 A maximum.
For the standalone controller, connect the battery before PV. Open the terminal clamps counterclockwise before inserting bare wire, then tighten them to secure the wire. Confirm the battery voltage on the screen before connecting solar.
What battery protection is specified?
The fusing section gives a 10 A controller-to-battery fuse. Power terminals accept up to 12 AWG; the manual also uses 12 AWG in its battery-cable example. A long cable may require a different layout to meet voltage-drop requirements without exceeding the connector’s capacity. PV fuse selection depends on the real panel/string current, not merely the controller’s output rating.
The manual does not state a numeric terminal torque. Mount the IP20 unit vertically, dry and ventilated, with 150 mm clearance above and below, outside a sealed flooded-battery compartment.
Which settings need attention?
Non-lithium 12/24 V banks are detected automatically. For lithium, enter the battery menu, select Li, choose 12 or 24 V, and set the charging voltage explicitly. The physical battery/BMS limits remain controlling; wake-up support does not establish permission to charge a cold battery.
The LOAD menu includes dusk-to-dawn, timed, manual, test and continuous modes. Mode 15 is manual and needs the Enter key to toggle output. If lights stay off, check both the selected mode and the load icon before changing battery wiring. The A4 parts diagram labels RS232 as reserved; verify accessory support for the installed revision before buying a monitoring module.
