Have a Rover 2? This guide covers the legacy RNG-CTRL-RVR30 / RVR-30 family. Check your model label and generation-specific notes first.
Wiring diagram
How the Rover 30A is wired.
Open this example in Crimp to use your own parts and cable lengths. Review the assumptions and installation notes as you adapt the circuit.
This example follows the legacy Rover Version 1.3 manual: a 30 A fuse on the battery-positive connection. The solar-side fuse is calculated separately from the example array. Confirm your controller generation before applying these values; newer manuals use different tables. Connect the battery first, then solar. Manufacturer installation manual

1. Check the model
Legacy RNG-CTRL-RVR30 / RVR-30. Rover 2 needs its own installation guide.
2. Battery first
Battery → BATT+ / BATT−. Check polarity and select the correct battery settings.
3. Then solar
Solar panels → PV+ / PV−. Connect only after the battery.
LOAD+ / LOAD−: omitted from this example. 20 A maximum; never connect an inverter or battery charger. V1.3 installation guide
Battery cable & fuse for this example
These sizes are for the controller-to-battery circuit in the legacy V1.3 example. Solar-side protection depends on your panels and array layout.

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 10 mm² (8 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 10 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 30 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which Rover is covered?
This record covers the RNG-CTRL-RVR30 / RVR-30 family. The Rover name alone does not establish the hardware generation. The lithium-capable Rover is distinct from Rover Elite and the positive-ground Rover PG models. These installation notes use the legacy Version 1.3 manual. Its model table confirms 30 A charging, 400 W at 12 V / 800 W at 24 V, and a 100 V solar open-circuit limit. Check the nameplate and actual connector labels before applying the details below.
How do the terminals map?
Crimp’s PV + / PV − represent the solar pair, and BATT + / BATT − represent the battery pair. The physical LOAD + / LOAD − pair, temperature-sensor connector, and communications port are omitted. LOAD is limited to 20 A, even on the 30 A and 40 A controllers; it is not another output carrying the controller’s full charge rating. Renogy prohibits connecting an inverter or battery charger to LOAD.
Connect the battery before the solar array so the controller can establish its operating voltage. Match the engraved terminal labels; the drawing’s top/bottom arrangement is not the enclosure’s physical layout.
What wiring and protection does the legacy guide specify?
Version 1.3 permits up to 8 AWG / 10 mm² at the power terminals. Its fusing section sets the controller-to-battery fuse equal to the charge-current rating: 30 A for this model. PV protection depends on the array’s short-circuit current and string arrangement; the 30 A charge-output rating does not establish a PV fuse value. Confirm conductor ampacity and voltage drop for the actual route, since the connector’s largest accepted wire is not a cable recommendation for every distance.
Mount the IP32 controller vertically in a dry, ventilated location with 150 mm clearance above and below. Keep it outside a sealed compartment containing flooded batteries.
How do I set up lithium charging and Bluetooth?
Select the battery type from the battery-voltage screen. In lithium mode, explicitly select 12 V or 24 V and the required charging voltage; do not rely on automatic detection for an over-discharged lithium bank. The legacy Li profile has a 14.4 V default boost setting for a 12.8 V LFP battery, with no float or equalization stage. Match the battery maker’s requirements and do not use the legacy temperature sensor for lithium charging.
Legacy V1.3 uses RS232 with an optional BT-1. The B3 manual describes RS485, and lists BT-2. That newer guide also changes conductor/fuse guidance. Bluetooth is external in both cases: inspect the port and generation before buying a module or mixing installation tables.
Is the Renogy Rover 30A the same as Rover 2 30A?
No. This page covers the legacy RNG-CTRL-RVR30 / RVR-30 family, not the RCC-M10030-C2 Rover 2. Renogy's Rover 2 manual, Version A0 dated July 31, 2026, identifies the newer family separately. A shared Rover name and 30 A charge rating do not make the installation instructions interchangeable.
Rover 2 has built-in Bluetooth, plus RS485; its monitoring instructions describe pairing directly with the Renogy app. The legacy V1.3 and B3 controllers described above use external Bluetooth modules. Check the model label and communications port before selecting accessories.
Do not carry this page's legacy fuse, cable or battery-profile guidance over to Rover 2. The current Rover 2 product table and A0 specification table also list different maximum terminal wire sizes. Confirm the requirement for your exact hardware with Renogy before choosing cable or ferrules; this legacy drawing is not a Rover 2 installation plan.
What do owners and installers say about the Renogy Rover 30A?
- A September 27 Rover 2 arrival report compares the newer controller's footprint with an older Rover 20A and Wanderer 30A. It is an unpacking report, not evidence that an existing Rover 30A installation can be reused unchanged.
- The October 2 Rover-to-Rover 2 comparison is a manufacturer post, not an independent owner review. Use the exact-model manuals for electrical limits and installation requirements.
