Victron BatteryProtect 220 wiring diagram

Non-Smart 12/24 V BatteryProtect: 220 A continuous up to 40 °C; 600 A peak with no published duration. Current must flow IN to OUT only. Supports load disconnect or a separately wired charger disconnect, never bidirectional use. Do not route inverter main power through it. 6–35 V input.

Cable sizing for this example

Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.

Cable sizes depend on the connected equipment, current and cable lengths. Add those details in Crimp to size each run.

Which BatteryProtect is this?

This is the non-Smart BatteryProtect 12/24V-220A, programmed using PROG and GND. The downloaded manual's cover identifies BatteryProtect 12/24V even though the PDF filename includes Smart. Its BP-220 column specifies 220 A continuous up to 40 °C, derating to 60% at 50 °C, and a 600 A peak without a stated duration. The earlier 30-second claim was unsupported.

The operating range is 6–35 V. The M8 main connections use 9 N·m torque. Mount with ventilation, preferably within 50 cm of the battery and away from battery gases.

How must IN and OUT be wired?

For load disconnect, connect the protected battery supply to IN and loads to OUT. Current may flow only IN to OUT. A separate charger-disconnect installation instead connects charger positive to IN and battery positive to OUT. One unit cannot carry both charging and discharge directions; reverse current can damage it.

The canvas shows the main studs only. The separate GND wire is required: use the supplied 1.5 mm² lead directly to battery negative or chassis, without sharing that lead with other equipment. The manual says a 300 mA fuse is sufficient for this connection. Main-cable protection is separate and must suit the source, conductors and load.

Can it switch an inverter's battery feed?

No. Manual §3.2 requires controlling an inverter or inverter/charger through its remote on/off function instead of putting its main DC feed through the BatteryProtect. Large input capacitance can produce a short-circuit indication or damage. The 600 A peak entry does not override this instruction.

What must be programmed before use?

Keep OUT disconnected during programming. Confirm 12/24 V detection; setting d repeats detection if the unit moves to another system. Factory thresholds are 10.5 V disconnect and 12 V reconnect on a 12 V bank, doubled on 24 V. Select thresholds for the actual battery.

Mode C uses an external BMS signal and disables the unit's internal undervoltage thresholds and alarm. A drop-in lithium battery without those control signals needs a different arrangement. Check manual §§3–4 for remote, alarm and BMS wiring omitted from this simplified symbol.

Describe your setup to draft a system with BatteryProtect 220 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
