Match the generator and its serial range

These notes cover the North American EU2200i, 120 V/60 Hz. Honda's manual selector distinguishes production serial ranges, types and the Companion. The archived 2024 manual covers the later CO-MINDER models; an older generator may have different controls. EU2200i is not a 230 V EU22i.

Printed page 80 gives 1.8 kVA rated output, 15 A rated current and 2.2 kVA maximum output. Plan continuous loads against the rated figure, leaving room for motor starting. A large-looking socket does not increase the generator's power capacity.

Use the AC output through suitable equipment

The canvas's L, N and PE represent the AC receptacle circuit. This is not a DC alternator that can charge a house battery directly. Feed a compatible AC battery charger or the specified AC input of an inverter/charger, and set its input-current limit to leave capacity for other AC loads.

Use a correctly rated cord and inlet, protect connections from water, and include the installation's required source selection. Do not connect generator output to inverter output or backfeed shore wiring. A plug adapter changes connector shape; it does not convert voltage or provide source isolation.

Resolve grounding with the whole installation

Printed page 54 states that the receptacle ground is connected to the frame, while AC neutral is not bonded to that system ground. The appropriate neutral/earth and RCD/GFCI arrangement depends on the receiving installation and transfer equipment. Have those reviewed together rather than adding a bonding plug or ground rod by assumption. Keep PE distinct from the load-carrying neutral.

Operate outdoors and check before loading

Follow the manual's outdoor placement and exhaust precautions, keeping exhaust away from occupied spaces, openings and neighbouring vessels or vehicles. CO-MINDER is additional protection; it does not make a locker or enclosed compartment suitable. Check fuel, oil, airflow and cords before starting, then connect loads within the available rating.

Parallel operation requires the specified Honda cables and an expressly compatible second generator; the manual selector includes a separate compatibility handout. For normal shutdown, disconnect or switch off loads first, stop the engine, let it cool and follow the fuel-vent/storage instructions. Investigate repeated overload or CO shutdown instead of continually restarting.
