Connection overview

Field-control view for the Zeus Regulator.

Conceptual field-harness interface only. The Zeus guide requires a field fuse for N-type alternators, selected for their field current up to 30 A; that unselected fuse is not drawn. The complete installation also needs protected ALT V+ and BAT V+ supplies, ground, sensing and charge-stop controls.

An externally regulated alternator needs its matched power, ground, field, sense, ignition and charge-stop harness. This view identifies the field-control connection only. The alternator, battery circuit and auxiliary harness must be selected and protected separately; field current is not main alternator output. This is a conceptual harness interface, not a complete field conductor: the Zeus guide requires alternator-specific field protection for an N-type alternator, up to a 30 A maximum, plus separately fused ALT V+ and BAT V+ supplies. No field fuse can be selected until the alternator is known. Connection overview only. Cable lengths are placeholders; use the complete manufacturer diagram to select conductors and protection. Separate regulator power from battery-bank voltage

Zeus can regulate alternators for nominal 12, 24, 36 and 48 V banks, but the reviewed installation guide's BAT V+ supply is 12 V only. The battery/control diagram on printed page 19 explicitly distinguishes that power lead from the battery-voltage sense leads. The ARCO datasheet independently lists 12 V regulator source voltage.

Do not power BAT V+ directly from a 24/48 V house bus simply because Zeus supports regulating that bank. Provide the specified 12 V supply and common reference, with protection and sensing arranged according to the exact harness diagram.

Expand the simplified canvas connections

The three canvas pins show only power, ground and conceptual field control. The real installation also includes alternator supply/ground, ignition/tach, separate battery sensing, temperature sensors, shunt sense pairs and optional BMS/network connections. Printed pages 17–20 show these harnesses and identify the field, alternator-supply and battery-supply wires requiring fuses.

Select the harness for the alternator's P/N field type and use manufacturer-specific field current and fuse requirements. The canvas's 1 A signal limit is not a physical field-driver rating. Wire and check the harness with it unplugged from Zeus, as the installation guide directs.

Configure shunts and BMS control

Enter actual battery chemistry/capacity, charge limits, alternator poles and shunt A/mV ratings. The guide requires a battery shunt for bank-current limiting; an alternator shunt serves a different measurement. Confirm polarity and zero/current readings before enabling full output.

The settings manual describes ATC as high to permit charging and low to stop when that input is enabled. Test the BMS stop path before relying on it. Feature inputs have different logic and must not receive positive voltage indiscriminately.

Verify integration and fault response

Choose the correct CAN data source, protocol settings and harness for the intended BMS/GX integration. An RJ45 or NMEA connector alone does not establish compatible pinout or charging control. Set thermal, battery and field limits, then test idle, hot operation and BMS shutdown.

For systems that disconnect battery negative, the guide requires disconnecting Zeus's battery/control harness before maintenance and reconnecting it only after ground and power are restored. Network monitoring does not replace that power-sequencing instruction or the physical charge-stop path.

Fit check

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Describe your setup to draft a system with Zeus connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
