Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Resolve the full model suffix first

The catalog's shortened SPR-MAX3-415 label omits a critical suffix. The electrical values 35.3 V Vmp, 11.75 A Imp and 40.7 V Voc match SPR-MAX3-415-BLK-R in Maxeon's official 544753 revision J installation manual, table 1, page 4. The all-black catalog image is consistent with that family, but does not provide a readable nameplate to confirm the exact suffix.

The different SPR-MAX3-415-R uses 34.5 V Vmp, 12.03 A Imp and 40.6 V Voc. Its current datasheet must not replace this entry's values just because it also says 415 W. This walkthrough remains family-only until the complete label is confirmed.

Use the matching row for the electrical design

For the BLK-R candidate only, table 1 lists 12.64 A Isc, −0.236%/°C Voc coefficient, and 1000 V maximum module-system voltage. Treat these as conditional on confirming that suffix. Calculate the complete string's cold Voc and applicable tolerances before connecting an MPPT controller. For a 12 V battery, the controller must accept the higher panel voltage and provide the appropriate battery profile.

The manual applies a 1.25 factor to marked voltage/current for component selection and distinguishes multiple series-fuse limits by family. Because the exact suffix remains unresolved, no universal series-fuse value is assigned here. Crimp's 15 A terminal envelope is a planning assumption, not the missing module protection rating.

Match connectors and isolate the circuit

Maxeon requires mating connectors to be the same type and manufacturer, even where local rules might permit alternatives. Keep connections clean, dry and fully engaged; do not leave unmated connectors exposed. Cover the modules and stop current flow before breaking electrical connections. See electrical installation, pages 4–5.

Use matching module types within a combined source circuit. Do not mix nameplates without manufacturer approval. Check polarity and array voltage before connecting to the controller and provide the controller's required battery-side protection.

Check the exact mounting configuration

The manual's mounting appendices distinguish module families and clamp arrangements. Confirm the actual frame and full model before choosing rail positions, clamp zones, grounding hardware or torque. Avoid placing rails under junction boxes, attaching items to the backsheet, or leaving sharp objects where the panel can flex against them.

Preserve drainage, ventilation and connector access. The image and broad 415 W label are insufficient to establish the mechanical design. Follow the mounting section and relevant appendix once identity is confirmed.

Describe your setup to draft a system with SPR-MAX3-415 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
