Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 25 mm² (4 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 25 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 150 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which AC version is this?

Quattro 48/5000/70-100/100 identifies a nominal 48 V, 5000 VA inverter/charger with 70 A charging and two 100 A AC inputs. It does not uniquely identify AC voltage: Victron publishes both 230 V and 120 V manuals covering this model family. Confirm the complete nameplate and use the matching manual before selecting AC cables, breakers, frequency, or loads.

The source revision above belongs to the 230 V manual. The downloaded 120 V comparison is Version 14, March 3rd, 2025. Shared DC recommendations below were checked in both; AC output instructions are not interchangeable.

How are the two inputs used?

AC IN1 L / N map to AC-in-1 and AC IN2 L / N to AC-in-2. When both sources are available, input 1 has priority; the manual commonly places the generator there and shore power on input 2. The Quattro selects sources rather than combining them.

AC OUT L / N represent backed-up AC-out-1. The symbol omits protective earth, chassis grounding, the separate AC-out-2, sensing, remote control, and VE.Bus. AC-out-2 disconnects while inverting and reconnects about two minutes after external AC returns; the reviewed manuals limit it to 50 A.

What DC wiring do both manuals specify?

For 48/5000/70, the 230 V battery table and 120 V battery table specify a 200 A DC fuse, one 70 mm² conductor per polarity for 0–5 m, or two 70 mm² conductors per polarity for 5–10 m. The tables exclude closed-conduit battery wiring. Maximum M8 battery-connection torque is 14 N·m. Keep the DC fuse removed until the entire installation is complete.

DC + / DC − carry inverter discharge and charger current. The recommended 200–800 Ah battery range does not replace checking BMS current limits, surge demand, or charge acceptance.

What AC and grounding limits need separate design?

Each input requires protection rated 100 A or less, reduced for its actual source. PowerAssist can add inverter power to the selected input, so size and protect AC-out-1 using the matching regional manual and expected load. Crimp's single output pair does not represent that complete AC design.

Provide protective-earth continuity and output residual-current protection. The internal ground relay bonds output neutral to chassis when inverting and opens before accepting external AC. The 230 V manual specifically requires a TN-S grounding system; do not transplant that installation instruction into an unidentified regional system.

What is checked at commissioning?

Use a dry, ventilated mounting location. Configure battery chemistry/current, BMS controls, and both source-current limits. Test source priority, inverter transfer, and the mains-only output with the actual shore and generator supplies.
