Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 1 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

What does Smart Battery Sense measure?

Smart Battery Sense sends battery voltage and case temperature to compatible chargers through a VE.Smart Bluetooth network. It does not measure current, calculate state of charge or act as a BMS. It is not a temperature-sensor input for VE.Bus inverter/chargers. Check the charger's VE.Smart compatibility and the network's chosen voltage/temperature source before installation.

Where does the sensor mount?

Attach the sensor body directly to the battery case with its adhesive backing so its temperature reading represents the battery. Connect the two eyelets to the corresponding battery terminals. The supplied leads are 45 cm long with M10 eyelets; if extended, the manual requires the same or a larger conductor cross-section. Support the wiring and retain the supplied T1A 250 V fuse.

Its operating range is 8–60 V, with 65 V an absolute maximum rather than a normal operating target. The ambient range is −10 to +60 °C. For a bank with several batteries, follow the manufacturer's mounting arrangement and remember that one sensor measures one location, not the temperature of every cell.

How is the wireless connection configured?

Use VictronConnect to create or join the intended VE.Smart network, then verify that the compatible charger actually receives the sensor values. Pairing a phone to the sensor alone does not establish charger communication. If another monitor already supplies temperature and voltage, review the network rules rather than adding competing measurement sources. The manual specifically discusses systems with GX control and BMV temperature sensing.

What do power draw and LEDs tell you?

At 12 V, the table lists 0.3 mA unconnected, 0.5 mA joining a network and 1.6 mA connected; the catalog uses that connected figure. Blue slow flashing indicates readiness for a phone connection and can coexist with normal VE.Smart transmission. Both LEDs continuously lit indicate a hardware fault; prolonged alternating LEDs indicate firmware update mode. Check the manual's LED table before interpreting a flashing lamp as a lost battery reading.

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Describe your setup to draft a system with Smart Battery Sense connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
