Cable sizing for this example
Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.
3 m one way
12 V system
- Wire
- 1.5 mm² · 16 AWG
- Example fuse
- 1 A
- Design current
- 0.5 A
- Voltage drop
- 0.3%
Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 1 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

What does the Ekrano GX include?
The Ekrano combines a GX controller and 7-inch display. Its data connections include three VE.Direct ports, VE.Bus, two VE.Can interfaces, Ethernet and USB. These ports have different functions even where their plugs look alike. Use the installation overview in §3.1 and the wiring instructions for the connected equipment.
How is it powered and protected?
Supply 8–70 V DC through Power in V+ and the negative connection. It cannot be powered over Ethernet or USB. Retain the supplied 3.15 A slow-blow inline fuse; its rating is not the unit's steady draw. The modeled 3.15 A supply ceiling follows that fused lead, not a published connector-current rating. The canvas shows only these supply connections, not the data, relay, sensor or protective-bonding connections shown in the manual.
The separate manufacturer datasheet gives 6.2 W at 12 V with full display brightness, about 0.52 A, and 2.6 W with the display off. At 24 V and 48 V the published full-brightness figures are 6.6 W and 7.4 W. Account separately for connected USB loads; the USB ports share a 1.5 A limit at 5 V.
Which installation details matter?
Follow the panel or blind-hole mounting method for the supplied hardware and leave access to the rear connectors. The datasheet rates the front IP54 with the steel bracket or IP31 with springs; the rear is IP21. The touchscreen is not evidence that the complete installed assembly is waterproof.
For a VE.Bus BMS system, follow §3.3: the original BMS and V2/NG provide different GX supply arrangements. Avoid powering the GX solely from the inverter's AC output without reviewing the manual's startup-deadlock warning.
How is the system commissioned?
Power the GX, configure network access, identify each connected device, and verify that the correct battery monitor is selected. Terminate and configure CAN networks according to the connected device's protocol; do not treat all RJ45 ports as Ethernet. Configure VRM access and alarms after local readings are sensible. GX monitoring does not replace the battery's BMS, fuse or independent equipment protection.
