Cable sizing for this example
Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.
3 m one way
12 V system
- Wire
- 1.5 mm² · 16 AWG
- Example fuse
- 1 A
- Design current
- 0.1 A
- Voltage drop
- 0.0%
Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the part's continuous draw. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 1.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 1 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

What does GlobalLink 520 do?
GlobalLink 520 sends compatible Victron device measurements to VRM over LTE-M. It is distinct from the newer GlobalLink 530's cellular modem. Check current LTE-M coverage for the installation location; ordinary phone coverage does not prove LTE-M service. The included prepaid connectivity lasts five years under Victron's service terms, not indefinitely.
How is it powered and connected?
Use the supplied 1.5 m power cable with 1 A inline fuse and M10 eyelets on an 8–70 V DC supply. The two VE.Direct ports can connect two supported devices; the cables are separate accessories. Compatible Smart devices can also report through Bluetooth Instant Readout after setup. The canvas represents only the DC feed, not the data, digital-input or relay wiring.
The current datasheet gives 50 mA at 12 V with Bluetooth enabled and the relay open, rising to 64 mA with the relay closed. Bluetooth-disabled and higher-voltage figures differ. The 1 A fuse must not be mistaken for continuous consumption.
How is it commissioned?
Record the VRM Portal ID from the unit, connect the supported devices, power it and follow the LED sequence in manual §3. Register the installation in VRM and verify fresh measurements from each intended source. Configure wireless devices in VictronConnect and check that their Instant Readout support is enabled. Allow for the documented reporting interval before deciding that a value is missing.
Can it act as a fast alarm or remote switch?
Updates normally occur every 15 minutes. Digital-input notifications and queued relay commands can therefore be delayed by that interval or longer if connectivity is lost. This is unsuitable as an immediate protective trip or emergency shutdown path. The relay is a limited control contact, not a battery-current switch; use the manual's contact rating for any external circuit. GlobalLink monitoring does not replace a GX controller where the system requires GX coordination or local control.

Describe your setup to draft a system with GlobalLink 520 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.
The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
