Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 16 mm² (6 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 16 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 25 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which batteries and hardware match this BMS?

The Lynx Smart BMS 1000 here is the original, non-NG product for Victron Lithium Battery Smart batteries. Lithium NG batteries require the NG BMS family. The original Lynx Smart BMS manual, printed pages 1 and 38–39, identifies the supported family and hardware variants.

The 1000 A version uses M10 module joints and has two internal power contactors. Its current capacity does not make M8 neighbours mechanically compatible.

Where do main power and control connections go?

In the standard configuration, BATT+ / BATT− connect the bank on the left and BUS+ / BUS− connect all loads and chargers on the right. Positive current passes through the contactor and negative current through the shunt. The four studs carry full battery current; the multiconnector does not.

Daisy-chain every battery's BMS cables and connect both remaining ends to the Lynx BMS. Its multiconnector has 13 pins; the manual reserves pins 12 and 13 for future temperature-sensor functionality and says to leave them unconnected. The drawing omits these battery-control connections, VE.Can, RJ10 and the remote on/off loop. A connected power path alone does not establish functioning battery protection.

How should chargers and loads respond?

Use ATC and ATD, or supported DVCC control through a GX device, to stop chargers and loads before a protection event requires the main contactor to open. The contactor is a backup protective action and system switch, not the normal charge regulator.

ATC and ATD are potential-free contacts rated 0.5 A at 60 V DC. The programmable SPDT relay is 2 A at 60 V DC and can provide an alarm or an external alternator-regulator control signal. That contact rating does not authorise routing an alternator's power output or an arbitrary field winding through it. The AUX output supplies battery voltage at up to 1.1 A, with its own shutdown behavior.

What limits and commissioning checks matter?

The contactor rating is 1000 A continuous, with 1200 A for five minutes. This thermal overload allowance is not a fuse interrupt rating. Provide external fuses selected for the cables, bank fault current and equipment; the BMS is not the system fuse. Precharge supports capacitive loads, but the manual requires sufficient load resistance during that phase.

Check detected system voltage, enter correct bank capacity, configure discharge floor and relay function, then verify charger/load shutdown and shunt-current direction. Current M10 connections specify 33 N·m. The manual disagrees about older pre-HQ2340 units' reduced torque; obtain serial-specific confirmation. For an older M8 500 A model, its stated joint torque is 14 N·m.

The standard terminal map does not implement the separate reversed-distribution procedure described in the manual's appendix.

Describe your setup to draft a system with Lynx Smart BMS 1000 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
