Cable sizing for this example

Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.

Cable sizes depend on the connected equipment, current and cable lengths. Add those details in Crimp to size each run.

What is this 24/12-15?

The Orion-Tr 24/12-15 non-isolated converts a nominal 24 V supply to a fixed 12.5 V output for 12 V loads. The model specification table gives 18–35 V input, 15 A continuous output, and 20 A maximum output. The maximum figure is not the continuous design rating. This fixed-voltage supply has no documented battery-charge profile; do not use this walkthrough as a house-battery charging scheme.

It is distinct from the isolated adjustable Orion-Tr and from Bluetooth Orion-Tr Smart chargers. The original catalog photograph depicted a 12/12-9 isolated converter and was removed because it did not identify this model.

What do the four terminals mean?

IN + / IN − represent source positive and negative; OUT + / OUT − represent the regulated load supply. The two physical minus terminals are internally interconnected. There is no galvanic isolation between source and load, and no documented Smart charger setup or engine-detection menu.

Connect the negative supply first. The installation sheet specifically warns that a poor negative connection can cause output overvoltage. Use a sound common-return path sized for the load; do not assume the two negative symbols create isolated systems. The terminal capacity is 6 mm² / AWG 10. No terminal tightening torque is specified in these reviewed sources.

How should protection be selected?

Protect the source-side positive wiring near the supplying battery and provide suitable protection for downstream load branches. Select protection from the actual conductor, connected load, and installation conditions. The installation sheet's 5 A external fuse instruction applies only to the 24/12-5, not this 15 A unit. It does not provide a model-specific external fuse value for the 24/12-15, so that sibling's fuse must not be copied here.

Before connecting valuable loads, verify the 24 V source polarity, the common negative, and the 12.5 V output. Calculate voltage drop in both input and output conductors. Keep sustained demand within 15 A, accounting for starting surges and ambient temperature rather than treating 20 A as a normal operating target.

What are the installation limits?

Choose a cool, dry, ventilated location. IP43 protection applies with screw terminals facing downwards. The specified temperature range is −20 to +55°C, with 3% per °C derating above 40°C. Keep the converter and exposed connections away from spray and battery gases, and verify stable output under the intended load after installation.

Describe your setup to draft a system with Orion-Tr 24/12-15 connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
