Cable sizing for this example
Use the diagram as a starting point for your installation. Replace the example equipment and cable lengths with your own, and check the connections against your exact model's instructions.
Cable sizes depend on the connected equipment, current and cable lengths. Add those details in Crimp to size each run.

Which Orion does this cover?
This is the older Orion 24/12-70 non-isolated converter, covered by Victron's model-specific installation leaflet. It is a regulated 24 V to 12 V supply with a manually adjusted output. Do not substitute instructions for the newer 24/12-80 or for an Orion-Tr Smart charger merely because they have similar names.
The leaflet specifies 13.2 V factory output, adjustable from 10 to 15 V. It does not describe an automatic bulk/absorption/float charging algorithm. A connected battery therefore requires a separately reviewed charging application; the catalog's “charger” category is not evidence of that suitability.
How is it wired?
IN + receives the 24 V source positive and OUT + supplies the 12 V circuit. The symbol's IN − and OUT − represent the shared negative connection, not an isolation barrier. Victron instructs you to connect the negative cables to the Orion's negative terminal before the remaining cabling. A poor negative connection can cause excessive output voltage.
The green remote connector is omitted from the drawing. Replace its wire bridge with a low-current switch, or follow the leaflet's alternative switched 24 V connection. The switched control current is below 100 mA; that does not make the main supply a low-current circuit.
How should the output be set?
Connect a small load while adjusting the potentiometer. The no-load voltage can be slightly higher, so setting it with no load can produce a lower voltage once a load is attached. Turning counterclockwise lowers voltage; clockwise raises it. Measure at the converter and at the load after the adjustment.
Use the voltage required by the actual load. Avoid treating the full 10–15 V adjustment range as acceptable for every nominal 12 V device.
What is still installation-specific?
Mount in a cool, dry, ventilated location and secure the heavy power cables independently of the control connector. The leaflet does not state cable cross-sections, an external fuse amperage, or a power-terminal tightening torque. Those values need the actual hardware, cable run, source protection, and installation design; they should not be copied from a different Orion model.
The drawing also does not simulate output adjustment, the shared physical negative terminal, or remote switching. Verify those details against the installed unit before energizing it.
Fit check
Connect it to the rest of your system.
Describe your setup to draft a system with Orion 24/12-70 (840W) connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.
The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
