DC-only example for the 48/5000/70-50: 200 A battery protection and 70 mm² per polarity follow the manual's 0–5 m table. The 3.048 m main leads plus 0.3 m positive disconnect link stay in that range. Verify the actual fuse/holder, battery capability, 90°C copper installation conditions, AC wiring and protective earth separately. Manufacturer installation manual

Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 70 mm² (2/0 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 70 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 200 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which 48/5000 does this cover?
This note uses the 230 V MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 manual. Confirm 230 V on the nameplate before applying its AC instructions. The model provides 5000 VA / 4000 W continuous inverter output at 25°C, 70 A battery charging, and 50 A maximum AC feed-through. Continuous output falls to 3700 W at 40°C. It belongs on a nominal 48 V battery system.
Which physical connections are missing?
AC IN L / N are the incoming supply and AC OUT L / N represent backed-up AC-out-1. DC + / DC − connect the battery and carry both charge and discharge current. The symbol omits protective earth, chassis grounding, AC-out-2, VE.Bus, remote control, sensing, and optional external current sensing.
AC-out-2 is a separate, mains-only output, with a 32 A rating in this model's specification table. It disconnects during inverter operation and reconnects about two minutes after external AC returns. It is suitable only for loads intended to stop during battery operation.
What battery cable and fuse does Victron specify?
The battery table, printed page 14 lists a 200 A DC fuse, 70 mm² per polarity for 0–5 m, or 120 mm² for 5–10 m. The table assumes 90°C copper and excludes closed-conduit installation. Maximum M8 battery-stud torque is 12 N·m. Its 200–800 Ah recommended bank range does not prove that a particular battery or BMS can deliver inverter surge current.
Keep the battery path short and secure the cables. Follow the installed battery's limits for charging, discharge, fault protection, and any contactor or precharge requirements.
How are AC and battery settings coordinated?
Printed page 15 requires an AC input fuse or breaker rated 50 A or less, reduced for the actual supply. Configure the input-current limit accordingly. PowerAssist can supplement incoming AC from the battery, so main-output protection and wiring need their own calculation; the 50 A input rating is not an output design by itself.
Configure the charging profile and current to match the specific battery. A compatible lithium system also needs the correct BMS communication/control arrangement; a brand name alone does not establish compatibility. AC-coupled solar, parallel operation, and grid-connected ESS require their own system configuration beyond the canvas.
What grounding and mounting details matter?
Maintain protective-earth continuity. The internal relay bonds output neutral to chassis during inverter operation and opens before connecting external AC. Verify residual-current protection in both operating modes. Mount in a dry, ventilated location with the manual's clearances, accessible connections, and a suitable supporting surface.
