Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 2.5 mm² (13 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 2.5 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 10 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Which MXS 7.0 is represented here?
This is the CTEK MXS 7.0, model 1053, for 12 V lead-acid batteries: WET, MF, Ca/Ca, AGM and GEL. It has no lithium charging program. The manual specifies 7.2 A maximum, although the program tables and product face call it 7 A. Its charging range is 14–150 Ah, with maintenance up to 225 Ah, and its battery-detection start voltage is 2.0 V.
The English manual supplied by CTEK's UK manual selector specifies 220–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz. Use the regional plug fitted to the unit; this is not a universal-input 120 V charger. See printed page 6.
What do the four canvas terminals represent?
AC L / AC N represent the supplied mains cord. BATT + / BATT − represent the red positive and black return through the Comfort Connect lead. The manual shows clamp and M8 eyelet accessories; these symbols are not exposed screw terminals on the charger.
For an installed negative-ground vehicle battery, connect red to positive and black to chassis away from the battery and fuel pipes, then connect AC. When finished, unplug AC first, then remove black before red. Printed page 6 gives a separate sequence for positive-ground vehicles.
The manual does not give a battery-lead fuse amperage or connection torque. Use the specified accessories and their instructions; neither the 7.2 A output rating nor the canvas's terminal limits establish those values.
How should the programs be chosen?
NORMAL uses 14.4 V for WET, Ca/Ca, MF and most GEL batteries; AGM uses 14.7 V. Choose according to the battery's permitted charging voltage. The normal program's stated temperature range is +5 to +50°C; the AGM program permits −20 to +50°C.
RECOND adds a 15.8 V, 1.5 A recovery step for deeply discharged WET and Ca/Ca batteries. Frequent use can cause water loss and affect connected electronics. It is not a routine program for every chemistry.
SUPPLY provides 13.6 V at 7 A or continuous float maintenance. Spark protection is disabled in this program. Review the program table, printed page 4, before selecting these modes; the charger remembers the chosen program after reconnection.
What do installation and charge completion require?
Keep the charger uncovered and ventilated, never on top of the battery, with cables protected from heat and damage. It is IP65-rated, and output falls automatically at high temperatures. Step 4 means ready to use; step 7 means fully charged. The manual says to disconnect if step 7 has not been reached within 45 hours, rather than leaving an unsuccessful charge unattended.
