Sized against ABYC E-11. The design current is the unit's rated output. The length is one way; voltage drop includes an equal-length return.
Run-length and manufacturer assumptions
The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.
Supporting parts
- 6.1 m total of 4 mm² (11 AWG) marine cable
- Terminations for 4 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
- 15 A fuse and holder on the positive run
- Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable
Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

What does SmartSolar 75/10 mean?
This is the Bluetooth SmartSolar MPPT 75/10, for 12 V or 24 V batteries. Its name gives the 75 V maximum PV open-circuit voltage and 10 A maximum battery charge current. Nominal array power is 145 W at 12 V or 290 W at 24 V. Extra panel power can be clipped; it does not relax the voltage or current limits. The manual's specifications, section 9.1 distinguish these ratings.
How is the 75/10 connected?
Connect the battery to BATT + / BATT − first, wait 10 seconds and verify the detected voltage in VictronConnect. Connect DC loads, then the panel array to PV + / PV −, following section 4.6. The real controller also has a 15 A LOAD output, which this catalog symbol omits. Loads drawn directly on the battery bus do not receive its BatteryLife or low-voltage-disconnect control.
Section 4.2 requires 15–20 A battery-side fuse protection, even with the controller's own fuse. Terminals accept up to 6 mm² / 10 AWG and tighten to 0.75 Nm. Size the battery cable for its actual routing and length. Mount vertically with terminals down, 100 mm ventilation space above and below, within 3 m of the battery and never directly above it.
Which solar-array limits need checking?
PV voltage must exceed battery voltage by 5 V to start; once running, the minimum difference is 1 V. Check cold-weather array Voc against the 75 V ceiling using the panel temperature coefficient.
Victron's sources disagree on maximum PV short-circuit current: manual revision 10 lists 10 A, while the published datasheet lists 13 A. The catalog retains the datasheet's 13 A PV-terminal value. Do not treat that as approval for an array above the manual's 10 A figure; confirm the applicable limit with Victron for the unit being installed.
What remains to be set up?
Choose battery chemistry and charging voltages in VictronConnect before use. Bluetooth and VE.Direct provide monitoring; neither appears as a power terminal in Crimp. Charge profiles, the physical LOAD output and cold-weather Voc are not verified by the simple charging example.
