Run-length and manufacturer assumptions

The editable example uses 3.048 m (10 ft) runs unless a shorter run is stated. Metric overviews round these to 3 m. Adapt the parts and lengths to your installation before choosing cable and protection.

Supporting parts

  1. 6.1 m total of 95 mm² (3/0 AWG) marine cable
  2. Terminations for 95 mm² cable, matched to the equipment's screw terminals, leads or studs
  3. 350 A fuse and holder on the positive run
  4. Heat-shrink, strain relief and terminal boots sized to the cable

Check stud sizes, fuse type, run length and how warm the space gets against the gear you actually have before you order.

Read the 24 V SE80 figures

Installation manual 2687 revision 30, page 5, lists 4.4 kW / 6 hp for the SE80. Its 80 kg thrust figure is measured at 21 V at the operating motor; at 24 V the table lists 96 kg. Battery resting voltage is therefore not a useful substitute for the loaded voltage at the thruster.

Page 20 lists 280 A nominal current and a 250 A ANL fuse for the 24 V 80/185T. Those are different quantities, consistent with a short-duty motor and time-dependent protection. Do not replace the specified fuse solely because a general continuous-load calculator returns a larger number.

Include isolation and control wiring

The power circuit needs a positive main isolator, specified protection, suitable battery supply and a full negative return. The simplified canvas omits the control panel and control loom. Follow the manual's connection diagrams for the standard SE on/off model; the SEP proportional version and ignition-protected versions have different equipment requirements.

Keep the main isolation reachable so that a control fault does not leave the motor running. Protect terminals against accidental shorting, support the heavy cables independently and use the model's documented fastening instructions.

Size from round-trip length

The page 20 chart uses total positive-plus-negative cable length. For the 24 V SE80 at less than 7 m it recommends 35 mm²; at 7–14 m the minimum remains 35 mm² but the recommended size becomes 50 mm². Check the full row for longer runs and allow for voltage drop in every joint and switch.

The same chart specifies minimum battery CCA in separate DIN, SAE and EN scales. Do not treat those scales as interchangeable or translate Ah directly into motor-start capability. For lithium, verify BMS current and transient capability explicitly. The catalog's surge is a planning estimate, not a separately established manufacturer peak.

Respect motor duty and tunnel requirements

Page 5 specifies S2 operation of 2–3 minutes at 20°C ambient. Plan manoeuvres and cooling accordingly. The tunnel position, propeller clearance and mechanical installation in the manual are prerequisites for rated thrust; adding cable area cannot correct a poor tunnel installation.

Before service, isolate all supplies and keep people clear of the propellers. Commission with the vessel afloat, verifying direction, stop response and loaded voltage. Inspect the anodes, propellers, cables and isolation arrangement as part of normal maintenance.

Fit check

Connect it to the rest of your system.

Describe your setup to draft a system with SE80/185T (24V) connected. Review the selected parts and cable lengths, then edit the diagram in Crimp.

The model only picks parts and draws the connections. Every wire size and fuse rating still comes from Crimp's own sizing, never from the model.
